What is Renta by Trocah?
Renta is a rent reporting tool created by Trocah to help renters build their credit scores by reporting their monthly rent payments to credit reference agencies like Experian.
How does Renta help me build my credit score?
Renta connects to your bank account (with your consent) and verifies that your rent payments are being made on time. This information is then reported to Experian, allowing your rent history to count towards your credit score, just like a loan or credit card.
Is Renta safe and secure?
Yes. We use Open Banking technology, which is regulated and secure. You remain in control and must give consent before we access your rent payment data. We do not share your data without your permission.
Do I need to change how I pay my rent?
No. You can continue paying your rent as you normally do (e.g., via bank transfer or standing order). Renta simply verifies those payments using secure read-only access to your bank account.
Will this cost me anything?
Renta charges a small monthly subscription fee. You'll always be informed before any charges begin and you'll have full control over your subscription.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You're free to cancel your subscription at any time on the Renta app or by contacting us directly.
Which credit reference agencies do you report to?
We currently report to Experian and are working to expand to other UK credit reference agencies soon.
Do I need to inform my landlord or letting agent?
No. You don't need to take any extra steps or inform your landlord. Renta verifies your rent payments directly through your bank transactions.
Will using Renta affect my credit score negatively?
No. Renta is designed to help improve your credit score. We only report verified, on-time rent payments. Late or missed rent payments are not reported without your consent.

Anyone in the UK who pays rent and has a UK bank account can use Renta, whether you live in private rented accommodation, housing association properties, or shared homes.
I live in a House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO). Can my rent still be reported to Experian?
Yes, but there are a few important things to know. If you live in an HMO (shared accommodation with separate tenants), each tenant must sign up individually to Renta by Trocah and link their own bank account using Open Banking. You must also be named on the tenancy agreement. To make sure your rent payments can be reported to Experian: You must pay your portion of rent directly to your landlord or letting agent from your own bank account. We cannot report your rent if you pay a flatmate or "lead tenant" who then pays the full rent on your behalf. This protects you and your credit record if another tenant misses their payment, because your share is treated separately.
Can I report rent from an address I no longer live in?
Renta can only report your current or most recent rent payments to Experian. Experian's system looks for ongoing and consecutive monthly payments to help establish your rental payment history.
If your tenancy ended more than 6 months ago or your rent payments are no longer ongoing, those payments can't be added to your Experian file.
For the best results:
- Use your current tenancy or a recent one (ended within 6 months).
- Ensure the rent payments are consistent and consecutive.
- Connect the bank account that you use to pay that rent.
This ensures your data qualifies to positively impact your credit file.
